My name is Eduardo Tavares, originally from the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, Portugal. I am the (some times grumpy) guy who writes this and other blogs, takes the photos and drives the RV.
My wife MaryLisa is from Woodstock, New Brunswick in Canada, and does everything else, which is a lot!!! I always call her Lisa, since it is what most of her friends call her. We met in October of 2010, at a country bar in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (of all the places...I don't even like country music... well, maybe a few tunes), where I had been living for 22 years and her for 15 years.
We were both previously married but decided to tie the knot in 2011, at the wedding capital of the world, Las Vegas. I always liked driving and had driven to Las Vegas many times before, so we made our wedding a one week road trip.
We did it all on a very tight budget but had a lot of fun. After that, we traveled again to Las Vegas, California (Los Angeles and Venice Beach) and across Canada to Toronto and even to New Brunswick, sleeping in the back of our van.
So, we have had the travel bug in us for a while now.
In the summer of 2012 we took an opportunity to move down to Ontario to start a new life and a business of my own in photography and art. Things did not work out the way we had planned and our life had a downturn for the worst. Thanks to the generosity of two couples we met during this turmoil, and the Salvation Army, we were able to get our feet back on the ground. Lisa started working at Timmy's while I was working in setting up my art business.
In the fall of 2015 we received a monetary gift from a family member and our kids, enough to acquire our current motorhome (a class C Majestic 28a on a Ford V10 E450 chassis) and allowed us to semi-retire and snowbird to the American Southwest. We will be spending our winters between Nevada, Arizona and California, and our summers in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
We will keep this blog updated with short stories about our adventures, photos and tips regarding our experiences.
So, join us in this new journey of our lives and the adventures we are going to be enjoying in our snow birding months and also in the summer months in Canada. Cheers!
